What does ‘PQL’ stand for?

PQL stands for Polecat Query Language. Our engineers have developed this to make searching as simple as possible

What is the difference between the Query Builder and Keyboard mode

The Query Builder helps you visually build up the search whereas keyboard mode lets you type out the search directly using PQL

How do I switch between the Query Builder and Keyboard mode?

The Query builder will open automatically when you click in the search query bar. To switch to keyboard mode use the keyboard icon in the left hand side of the search query bar

What fields can I query on?

Keyword: looks for any matches across the title and content
Author: looks for matches in the name of the Author or Twitter user
Content: looks for matches in the body of the article only
Domain: matches an exact domain (e.g. bbc.co.uk)
Region: looks for documents published from a certain country (from a drop down)
Source: looks for matches in the name of the document source (e.g. BBC)
Title: looks for matches in the headline of the document only

What is a proximity search?

This feature allows you to specify a maximum number of words that can appear between the words in this search phrase

What is a prefix search?

This feature uses the term or terms at the start of the phrase and returns results for this term(s) plus any word that follows

What is a Group

A group is a section of a query bound by a single logical operator

What is a Subgroup

A subgroup is a section of a query that allows you to add an expression within a group to refine your results further. E.g. coronavirus and (vaccine or vaccinated)

What is an Exclude

An exclude can be created at a query, group or subgroup level and removes documents where the specified terms/tokens appear in the search results

How do I save a search?

You can save a search by using the bookmark function that is found in the search bar. The star shaped icon will bookmark your search and provide the option to name the search or amend an existing search. Bookmarks can be accessed from the left-hand navigation bar.

Can I use PQL searches in ENBs

Yes, you can use any bookmarked search in an ENB in InsideTrack

Can I share a PQL search

You're not able to do this in-product currently but you can manually share by copying the query syntax and sending it to another user. We are considering sharing options for InsideTrack
